Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Newsletter Summer 2021

Dear Roots & Shoots Members,

It’s hard to believe that fifteen months on we are still living with a Global Pandemic. This has been equivalent to running a hypothetical ‘marathon’ in terms of resilience, strength, resourcefulness, application, optimism and hope.

It has been a roller coaster ride for all, and an indescribable dark period for many people who have sadly lost loved ones, not to mention those remarkable individuals who have bravely been working on the front lines of history.

As a result, we have moved further into a technological, fast paced world of Zoom, MS teams and Chrome to name a few ‘social’ platforms, where the ‘personal’ aspects of living and connecting with others have taken even more of a back seat, almost non-existent in some cases.

In light of this, I’ve been thinking a great deal about the value of longevity; time considered projects and activities that bear fruit gradually, and relationships that are built up over the years. I’m pleased to say that Roots & Shoots is a stall bearer for these values. Our young members have done us proud, yet again. Rising to the challenges that the Pandemic has created through lockdown, on-line learning and social distancing to embrace the very qualities that we stand for and that continue to hold us steady in turbulent times.

The projects during this time speak for themselves in this latest edition of our Summer newsletter. Enjoy them.

Keep safe and well. Good times are ahead. We will emerge stronger, more compassionate and more mindful of our planet as a result of these times.

Warm wishes,

Tara

Executive Director, Education
