Our day at the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Awards 2020

“Every individual matters, Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference. The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves….”By Jane Goodall, the British anthropologist and primatologist.

Jane Goodall is the world’s leading authority on chimpanzees. Goodall is famous for her work among the chimpanzees of Gombe and for her efforts to raise awareness about the plight of both wild and captive chimpanzees. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is an education programme for young people in UAE. They encourage children to implement practical positive change for people, animals and the environment. Every year they will value the school’s environmental activities across UAE, So the past two years our school has been selected for the award based on our sustainable actions.

It was a memorable day for Sunrise English Private School. The award ceremony was held in Park Hayatt Hotel in Saadiyat on 6thFebruary 2020.

The Roots & Shoots members of Sunrise displayed our activities and explained them to the attendees.   The conference hosted by New York University Abu Dhabi, Tara Golshan gave inaugural speech and later Jane Goodall gave a brief speech on the goals of Roots & Shoots and her life story. We presented a short video on the activities by Eco-club for the sustainability . Mrs. Leena Maniyath, our SSI Coordinator, received the Roots & shoots award, certificate and a signed copy of book authored by Jane Goodall, on behalf of the School. Students played the nurdle game where they had to pick up the plastic pieces from Saadiyat beach which drifted from the sea to the beach.
