WORLD OCEAN DAY

WORLD OCEAN DAY

The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods!

Bhavans Natura, Eco club of Private International English School – Bhavans Abu Dhabi, celebrated World Ocean Day on 8th June 2021 during an informative special assembly hosted by the eco champs of Grade 9. The program has aimed to explore the possibilities of saving our oceans and nature through effective teamwork.

The honourable chief guest was Abdallah Al Matrooshi, a UAE Nature Ambassador, determined to help UAE achieve a greener future. Joining him were the pioneers of our own school including our beloved Principal, Mrs. Girija Baiju who has been supporting us through all our highs, and lows and Vice Principal, Mr. Suresh V. Balakrishnan who has been leading us by example and motivating students with his inspiring words. The day’s celebration would not have been a success without the support of our dedicated club coordinator Ms. Usha Kumari, programme coordinators Ms. Pushpa, Section Supervisor Ms. Hemaletha and parents along with the efforts of our fellow peers.

“We should not be greedy and we should not spoil our environment,- Girija Baiju (Principal)

“Maintain our distance is the message the Earth is giving us, Maintain distance from plastic!”- Suresh V. Balakrishnan (Vice Principal)

The program began with a warm welcome address followed by a pledge to reduce our consumption of plastic and care for marine creatures. After a compelling speech from our Vice Principal, students talked about the importance of waste segregation emphasising its consequences if not followed. Next was a plastic alternative activity in which students recycled paper by creating paper bags. Families took initiative in clearing up waste from this planet and its water bodies by holding small cleanups on beaches and streets. Continuing the events was a short but encouraging speech from the Chief Guest appreciating the students for their works and further motivating them. Then a student conveyed their thoughts through a poem, addressing how humans should be accountable for their actions. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks expressing gratitude to all who played a part during the celebration.

World Ocean Day has spread awareness on the importance of the water bodies of our planet and encouraged all members of society to take precautions for saving our oceans. We must be conscious of our actions every single day because every drop of water is precious!
