Mangrove and beach cleanup

Each year, all of HENA’s members participate in a beach and mangrove cleanup day at EMEG (Emirates Marine Environmental Group). The kids learn about the greatest sources of marine pollution in our local waters and how it causes algae to form around the mangroves, slowly suffocating them. Kids wade through the mangrove, collecting the algae in buckets to be used for oil-spill cleanup. It’s one of our favorite annual volunteer opportunities.
